First Option… Adoption
What is First Option… Adoption?
"First Option… Adoption" is a campaign to educate people on animal overpopulation and to encourage adoption in hopes of reducing the number of animals that are euthanized each year.
Every year, thousands of animals are euthanized in West Michigan. Mackenzie's is a no-kill dog sanctuary, but even with our extensive efforts we can only house a certain number of dogs each year. We hope to continue to see an increase in adoptions so that we can in return rescue more dogs that would otherwise be euthanized.
Why consider Mackenzie's when adopting?
Mackenzie's offers the best and most extensive training programs to every dog. We even offer training in a room that resembles a living room, so the dog doesn't forget what it is like to be in a home environment. We teach basic commands including general obedience. All dogs receive the best medical care while at Mackenzie's, including spaying/neutering, all vaccinations, micro-chipping, monthly heartworm preventative care, and any other additional veterinarian care that is necessary.
Three ways you can support First Option… Adoption and reduce the number of homeless pets:
- Prevention:
Spay or neuter your dog and any outdoor pets or strays that you are feeding. When you spay or neuter your pet, it helps prevent the cycle of unwanted litters, which typically end up homeless and in shelters. If you need low cost spay/neuter assistance go to www.allaboutanimalsrescue.org for a list of participating veterinarians in your area. - Consider Adoption:
Petfinder.com is a great resource to use when you are considering adoption of a four-legged friend. Even if you are looking for a particular breed, there are numerous rescue groups dedicated to specific breeds. - Support Mackenzie's:
You can help support our campaign by adopting from Mackenzie's, donating to our efforts, and/or sponsoring one of many dogs at the Sanctuary.
