Hungry Howie Left to Starve for Nearly Three Months
Howie, or Hungry Howie seems to be a more appropriate name for a dog that was left to starve in a garage of a home in Kent County for nearly three months.
This loving, two year old Bull Dog/Pitt Bull mix was left to starve in the garage of a Kent County home after his owner was incarcerated. When rescued by Kent County Animal Control, Howie weighed in at a mere 30 pounds. "The average weight for a dog of this breed and age should be closer to 70 pounds" said Stephanie Ellinger, Animal Control Officer for Kent County Animal Control. Howie was immediately treated for dehydration and starvation. Veterinarians also had to perform a foreign body removal because he was eating anything that was within reach, including a ceramic bowl.
"Howie shows no signs of food aggression and is making a good recovery. Kent County Animal Control will be bringing Howie to Mackenzie's early this week where we will continue rehabilitating Howie and getting him ready for adoption." said Tommie Foote, Adoption Coordinator for Mackenzie's Animal Sanctuary.Mackenzie's is seeking support to help with rehabilitating Howie and other dogs in need of care due to cases of abuse and neglect.
