Providing a Safe & Healthy Environment…

As of 4/13/09:
As we continue our efforts to help Montcalm dogs, to date we have housed 43 very lucky four legged friends, 3 of them testing positive for Parvo and 2 testing positive for Heartworm. For the dogs with Parvo, they were given the appropriate medical attention and all three of them currently have a clean bill of health. As for the heartworm positive dogs, we are also currently giving them the appropriate medical attention and have high expectations that the both of them will have a full and successful recovery.
We are continuing to give each dog that comes from Montcalm County:
- Fecal Test
- Heartworm Test
- Parvo Test
- De-worming Medication
- DHLPP Vaccination
- Bordetella Vaccination
- Rabies Vaccination
- Veterinary Health Exam
- Heartworm Pills
Please continue to support our efforts of helping more dogs in need!
Original Post
Many local rescues have stepped up to rescue dogs from being sold to research or being euthanized during Montcalm County Animal Shelters Parvo outbreak. Unfortunately, most of these rescues are foster based and have other dogs in their homes that can not be exposed to dogs that potentially have the Parvovirus.
Mackenzie's was contacted and asked to be a temporary quarantine holding area for various animal welfare groups until the virus is contained. Upon receiving the phone call we were able to set up an isolation protocol within 24 hours and started taking in dogs Friday, February 13th.
In the past weeks, we have welcomed 13 dogs, one which gave birth to three very cute puppies, along with two 4 month old husky puppies, which both tested positive for Parvo and had to be temporarily hospitalized, along with two 8 week old Rotti/Lab puppies, and a variety of other breeds.
All dogs that arrive at Mackenzie's quarantined area are; Parvo tested, de-wormed, heart-worm tested, given appropriate vaccinations, and general wellness checks to make sure no other medical problems are apparent.
…Support our efforts today so we can continue giving these dogs a safe and healthy place to stay and provide them with what they so desperately need and deserve.
